  Great homestay families.

We are accredited by ASIC (Accreditation Service for International School, Colleges and Universities), a UK government approved accreditation body.
Our intensive courses are designed to combine classroom study with 'real world' speaking opportunities.  One week consists of 23 hours of English.

Classroom Teaching (15 hours week)
The classes are topic-based (money, healthcare, schools etc.) or deal with everyday English situations. All the grammar is introduced systematically and integrated with the situations and topics. New structures are learnt through student-centred activities, with language targets practised through pair work and group work. Our teachers use a range of teaching materials, making use of internationally-recognised course books and work they have created themselves.

English in the Community (8 hours week)
Your English in the community classes are structured around speaking and listening activities.  Whenever possible, we will find opportunities for you to use your English with English people.  The classes may include the following:

•  Visit Durham Attractions - we have a range of activities that make use of Durham's attractions.

Coffee Shop Chats - relax and use your English in one of Durham's many coffee shops.  It's a great chance for free conversation with your classmates and teacher.

•  Walk and Talk - we simply walk and talk, usually along Durham's beautiful riverbanks.  We talk about the things around us,  topics you've studied in class, just about anything.

•  Interviews with Business Owners - using our local connections, we'll arrange for you to interview local business owners.

•  Weekend Trip Preparation - on most of our weekend trips, you will have a chance to ask local people questons to find out more about the place.  In order to help you do this, we will give you some information about the place beforehand and go over some of the background vocabulary you might need.

•  Guest Speakers - listen as a local professional, perhaps a teacher or police officer, tells you about their life and work.  How do their jobs differ from similar jobs in your country?   It's another chance for you to listen to real English.
